First and foremost: We are not a critique group. We are not a workshop group. We are a group of writers who get together to...just write. This is a group that meets to WRITE, to socialize, and to offer encouragement and inspiration to others as we practice our craft. We're focused on the process, not the product. Writing can be a solitary activity...but it doesn't have to be. This is a group where the focus is actually on DOING the work as opposed to critiquing already finished works. I found s …
Cafe Society is not a new idea. In Beethoven's time in Vienna, great minds gathered over coffee, a beverage that only recently had eclipsed tea as the Viennese hot beverage of choice, to discuss all manner of cultural and intellectual concerns, face to face, undistracted. The Stock Exchange of that day was conceptualized and created in a local coffee house. Coffee houses still exist today but Cafe' Society proposes a more social alternate to a computer screen. Discussion, locally produced art an …

This group was inspired by Susan Cain's book "Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking". We aim to encourage people who know that quiet times can be fun to claim their place in an extroverted world and make new friends in the settings and at the pace that they are comfortable with. Do you treat your life's precious moments with reflection and quiet enjoyment instead of haste? Do you like walking through leafy streets or by the lake early in the morning or at sunset, sipp …

Do something. Learn something. Share something. Change something…. and play games! We remember times we've had game night with friends, and now, perhaps game night with Meetup friends works even better. Join for an easy evening of board games. We plan to hang at a bar, sip at a coffee house, lounge on a friend's sofa with sparkling conversation and a languid competitive effort. Break out. Toss some dice. Join us for some family-fun styled adult diversion.

What's that? You have a bouncy new (or slightly less new) baby and your life no longer looks the same? The once rockstar existence of pre-baby has come to a screeching slow down and you've set aside (but never abandon) your pleather for pacifiers and late-nights out for late-nights in? Yeah, me too. Doubts, pressures and panic has wrapped up in the joy and excitement of a new baby and suddenly a lot of supportive non-baby-having friends have slowly drifted... I'm hoping to find new (and slightly …

The Book (Was Better) Club is for cinephiles and bookworms alike. Each month, members will select a book for which a film adaptation was (or will be) made. To keep discussions productive, caps will be placed on how many may attend a given meeting, but meet-ups will be held at least twice a month. So if you don't R.S.V.P. in time for one, just join another! Events will range from discussions (over coffee, tea, wine, or my personal favorite: FOOD) to in-home movie viewings and trips to the cinema.

Having lost my husband to cancer seven years ago, I realise how important it is to get support from other people who have lost a husband or a wife, either because they passed away or through a divorce. I hope to form a close group of men and women who will always find a sympathetic person willing to lend an ear when needed. I intend to organise a variety of meetings such as dinners, cocktails, or just coffee, tea and yummy desserts.

I couldn't find at meet up group that met on the north side of Chicago in Lakeview, Uptown or Edgewater at the times that I was available. So, I decided to start my own. All people are welcome to join! We are always looking to make new friends. We have two regularly scheduled meet ups. There is one every other week on Sunday afternoons. The other is on Monday evenings on the opposite weeks (so there is only one meet up per week).

The meet up place can change from coffee shops to personal homes, where ever the wind takes us on the north side. A new book will be decided after every meet up based on participant votes. The book club is supposed to be relaxed and social & to bring people together who love to read & want to meet new people in the north side neighborhoods.
