ASHEVILLE ? The Green Sage, a fair-trade, organic coffeehouse with a quick-service restaurant, opened on the corner of Broadway and College streets.

Owners Randy Talley and Al Kirchner wanted to offer Asheville a wide selection of fair trade beverages and organic and local fare, as well as live music.
Breakfast will be available until 4 p.m. The menu includes a variety of health-conscious items, Talley said.
The Green Sage?s mission goes beyond the menu: The owners want to reduce the business?s carbon footprint as much as possible. The coffeehouse uses 12 solar thermal panels on the roof to heat 500 gallons of water stored in the basement, Talley said.
The owners also want to reduce their waste. They will fill reusable water bottles and use compostable containers, for instance.
The Green Sage will be open 7:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 7:30 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m-9 p.m. Sunday.
