Announcing a new Meetup for Bangkok Coffee and Movie Meetup!

What: "Om Shanti Om" at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Thailand

When: Thursday, July 3, 2008 7:00 PM

Click the link below to RSVP

Meetup Description:
We have switched the next film to "Om Shanti Om" because the booking system used for our original choice does not lend itself to a Meetup group. The date has also been changed (to July 3).

"Om Shanti Om" is a 2007 Indian film that was nominated for 5 awards at the recent International Indian Film Academy Awards, including "Best Picture". The BBC gave it 4 out of 5 stars and wrote, "Both a homage to and parody of Bollywood, this cinematic feast delivered straight from the heart of the film industry will have you glued to your seats till the end."

Schedule

7:00 pm - Samosas, kababs, biriyani, provided by the city's newest Indian restaurant "Indian Host". Charge for non-FCCT members: 100 baht. You should arrive promptly by 7:00pm if you want to eat because the food supply may run out early.

8:00 pm - The movie (with English subtitles). Charge for non-FCCT members: 150 baht

About the Movie

Om (Khan) lives for the movies. He is a junior artist working in 70s Bollywood and dreams of one day being the biggest film star in India. His love is Shantipriya (Pandukone) - the queen bee of the industry and someone whom Om can never hope to have. But fate works in mysterious ways. After an incident in which Shantipriya is literally roasted alive by her money-hungry husband (Arjun Rampal), and in which Om too reaches a not too fancy end saving her, we fast forward to present-day Bollywood and the tables turn. Now Om (yes, Om again) is the superstar, winning awards and attending glitzy parties. But his quest to unravel the truth about his previous life haunts him. And like any good Indian movie, justice is served and the baddie must die!

How do I get to the FCCT?

The easiest way to get there is by Skytrain.

Take the Skytrain to the Chitlom (or Chit Lom) station. While in the station, take Exit 2 by walking in the opposite direction from the Central Chitlom Department store to the first exit on the left. The Skybridge connects to the Maneeya Center, a two-building complex.

Walk straight back to the rear building and as you head in that direction, you will see signs for the FCCT. You can take a down elevator to the second floor or walk down one flight of stairs to reach the elevator bank for the rear building. In those elevators, press the "P" button for the Penthouse.

There is free parking inside the Maneeya Center building (and in the outdoor lot) for the Friday Meetup (in fact, every day after 5:00 pm).

If you're not familiar with the Skytrain system, Maneeya Center is between (about 1-2 blocks from each) Central World and Central Chitlom Department Store.
