Josh D. & Charles M. of Urnex will discuss how to clean and care for your coffee equipment. As a long-time member of the SCAA tech standards committee, Josh can also authoratively explain all elements of coffee brewing.

We are fortunate enough once again to be the guests of SCAA board member Mary Petitt at Juan Valdez!

I would very much prefer it if you were to pay the fee with Paypal, as it makes running the meetup itself much smoother. Our meetups start exactly on time, and end exactly at 8pm.

SCAA Cocktail Reception for Members at Fancy Food. This is a giant cocktail party for all SCAA members, professional and consumer.

I will stand at the door for a good bit, but otherwise, due to size of this event, you may just have to seek me in the crowd. It normally lasts 1-1/2 hrs., so if you're not on time, you'll miss out.

Due to the craziness associated with this annual reception, I suggest you pay in advance thru paypal, if at all possible. I really need this group to be honest about the fee, here, please.

I also urge you all to remember that these people are the professionals at the Specialty Coffee Association of America that make our group possible; they are our sponsors, with fascinating coffee knowledge to share.

Therefore I beg everyone to be on their very best behavior! <wink> Thanks.

Jim Piccinich of 1st-line (http://www.1st-line.com) will be speaking to us on the subject of home coffee and espresso machines. He will be giving a machine demo.

I really need a good-sized group to make this worth Jim's while, please. Further, we are indeed meeting at the NYBOT (http://www.nybot.com/) grading room!

This is very exciting, as it is the place the professional coffee cuppers work for the Exchange. It's on the 3rd flr. of 39 Broadway, across from the Merrill Lynch bull. The closest subway stop is Wall St.

To comply with NYBOT's security policy, I do need to give them a list of attendees 48 hours in advance. So you must RSVP by Monday noon, May 22. Further, please bring a photo ID to show the guard.

If your name isn't on the list, I'm very sorry, but NYBOT will not let you in. I hope you understand the need for the Coffee Exchange to be strict with its security these days.

Also, of course, I will be raffling off fresh whole-bean coffee and a set of Segafredo espresso demitasse.

i hope you all agree this event is worth a mere dollar!

Please note all our events are 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 mins. long. This month will focus on the Aerobie Aeropress brewer and basic brewing parameters. We will discuss cafetiere and press brewing in this light as a group, with reference to the Lingle coffee brewing handbook. Suggested reading: the Lingle handbook, which can be ordered online from the SCAA at http://www.scaa.org.

for our october event, due to various holidays, we are doing a little sleight of hand and moving it to sunday afternoon at oren's jewelbox shop on e. 58th between madison and park. it's just the only way i could see to accommodate everyone. again, this will primarily be a social event, altho' i hope oren will have a moment to chat about his coffee, but that entirely depends on how busy he is that day.

this event is in 2 parts! the actual meetup has been moved to coincide with the scaa annual membership reception, a cocktail party (business casual at least, please!) at our old stomping grounds, the juan valdez cafe at e. 57th & lex, from 6-8pm. there we will mix & mingle with professional coffee people. it's a great time for you to meet the pros and for the pros to meet consumers, as well as each other!further, we will be meeting the day before, july 10, at noon to tour the floor of the fancy food show at the javits center. you will need to buy your own ticket (http://www.fancyfoodshows.com), which can be had for just US$35 if you buy by july 8 on their website. please register as "other trade," an "scaa c-member."dallis coffee's steve schulman will be leading us as we work our way thru the fancy food show, with an emphasis of course on the italian coffee pavilion! wear comfy shoes and bring your cell phone, please.if you can't make it to both parts, don't worry! i'll be sending out a lot of organizing email about this monster event, so make sure stay tuned and keep the meetup.com emails outta your spam folder!

do bring a cell phone to the fancy food event, so you can find us if we get separated on the show floor, which is huge. don't forget your comfy walking shoes. and please, business casual at least for the monday cocktail party. many professional members will wear suits, but they're not required.
