After a great cupping at Cafe Grumpy last month, our next cupping is at Intelligentsia on Wednesday November 5th at 6pm. Please read on for important details.

What happens during the cupping?
For those of you who like visual descriptions, this is exactly what happens: Once you come into the Intelligentsia labs, you are presented with three cups with three different freshly ground dry coffees. Everybody first smells the dry aroma of each coffee, after which hot water is poured over the cups. We then break the crust of each coffee with a spoon and smell the wet aroma of each coffee (We all get our individual cups). And then it is time to slurp the coffee to get an idea of the flavors, the acidity the body and the finish. Afterwards there is a discussion on varietals, coffee regions, roasting etc.

How long does it last?
I would say about 1.5 hours but it may go a little bit over.

Cost of the Event and Payment
This event costs $8 per person and pre-payment is required upon a 'Yes' RSVP. Please understand that I will have to remove all unpaid RSVPs in order to make room for people who really mean it. There is a three day cancellation policy, which means that there will be no refunds for cancellation notices after Sunday November 2nd.

Please note that Intelligentsia also holds free tastings every Thursday at 11am. We are paying for our cupping because they are scheduling a special one for us after hours at 6pm. We are essentially paying for the barista's time who will be our guide during this cupping.

For those of you who are free during the day, I have also scheduled a daytime cupping at Intelligentsia for Thursday November 20th. When you RSVP for this, please make sure to revise it if your plans change. Space is limited and they will be holding your space when you RSVP, which means they will be turning down other people.
